Philiphaugh is a rugby union ground in the Royal Burgh of Selkirk, Scotland with a capacity of approximately 6,000. It is the home of Selkirk Rugby Football Club, who currently play in Scottish Hydro Electric Premiership Division One and the Border League.

Rugby was first recorded being played in the town of Selkirk in 1877, not far from the ground's current site. However it was Selkirk Cricket Club who first used the current pitch, before moving to larger premises. Selkirk RFC first played at Philiphaugh in September 1926.

The Border Reivers professional team played their first game at Philiphaugh in 1999.

Melrose Rugby Football Club, located and founded in the town of Melrose in the Scottish Borders in 1877, is one of the oldest Rugby union clubs in the world.

The club was formed in 1877 and was elected to full membership of the Scottish Rugby Union in 1880.^[2] The club have played at the Greenyards since the club's inception.^[2]

Melrose have been Scottish champions on nine occasions (1990, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2011, 2012 and 2014). Melrose won the Scottish cup in 2008 and were runners up in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013.

Despite the population of Melrose hovering around 3,500 for a number of years the team has been a consistently successful club in the upper echelons of the Scottish game.

Melrose is most famous as the host of the first-ever rugby sevens tournament in 1883, the abbreviated game having been invented by Ned Haig, a local butcher. The first Melrose Sevens was won by Melrose, beating local rivals Gala in the final during extra time. The Melrose Sevens, played on the second Saturday in April every year, remains the most popular Scottish Sevens tournament, regularly attracting crowds in excess of 10,000. In honour of the role of Melrose RFC in the creation of rugby sevens, the club was inducted along with Haig to the IRB Hall of Fame in 2008. Melrose have had some recent success in their home tournament, coming runner-up on a couple of occasions and winning it in 2011. In 2010 they were crowned Kings of the Sevens winning the Kelso, Earlston, Gala and Jedforest sevens and placing respectably in the others.

Gala Fairydean Rovers Football Club are a Scottish association football club based in the town of Galashiels in the Scottish Borders. The club competes in the Lowland League, after joining from the East of Scotland Football League in 2013. At the same time the club changed its name to Gala Fairydean Rovers, following a merger between Gala Fairydean and Gala Rovers.

Gala Fairydean won the East of Scotland Football League eight times and finished runners-up on seven occasions. The club reached fifteen Scottish Qualifying Cup South finals, winning it eleven times, before the competition was abolished in 2007. Gala Fairydean Rovers qualify automatically for the Scottish Cup as a member of the Scottish Football Association (SFA). The best performance by the club was reaching the third round, done on five occasions.

Gala Fairydean first played its home matches at Eastlands Park in Galashiels between 1909 and 1913, before moving to Mossilee for a spell until the 1920s. The club moved back to Eastlands, and stayed until 1929, when Netherdale was opened. Netherdale has been the club's home since 1929 and is located in the south-east of Galashiels.^[6][7] The ground's main spectator stand was designed by architect Peter Womersley, alongside engineers Ove Arup and built between 1963 and 1965. The stand has a capacity for 750 spectators and the ground as a whole up to 4,000. The cantilevered concrete structure is protected as a Category Alisted building. The club bought 300 seats from Newcastle United's St James' Park stadium when it was refurbished, but were replaced in 2006 by wooden benches.

In 1883, the club took part in the first ever Sevens tournament in Melrose and competed the final with the hosts. Within a year they (and many other Border clubs) had started their own Sevens, also known as 'Sports'. In 1994, these separate tournaments were organized into the Borders Sevens Circuit league structure, the winners are crowned as the "Kings of the Sevens". Gala has been 'the Kings' on two occasions, in 2004 and the first ever winners in 1994.

In 1912 the club moved from Mossilee to a new ground at Netherdale, the new pavilion and grandstand built at a cost of 1150. 1931-32 saw Gala's first and only success in the Scottish Unofficial Championship under the Captaincy of Jimmy Ferguson.

From 1979, with Scottish internationalists Derek White and Peter Dods in the team, Gala won the Division 1 title 3 years in a row.

n 1995, Gala was one of 8 teams to play in the new Scottish Premier League. In 1999, inspired by a young Chris Patterson at Stand-off, Gala won a treble of medals, the Division 2 title, the Scottish Cup, and Melrose Sevens. The lowest point in modern history came in 2007, when Gala was relegated to Division 3 for the first time in its history. Worse was the fact that it was only points difference of 2 over the whole season. This gave the club the chance to clear out the dead wood and the team bounced back into Division 2 at the first time of asking.

The 2010-11 season saw it promoted back into the top flight, its first full season back. 2011–12, saw a 3rd place finish and the Scottish cup for the second time. Gala finished 2012-13 as both Premier Division and Scottish cup runners-up. 2013/14 saw Gala finish runners-up in the Premiership again. This was a painful result as they were leading for much of the season only to lose out on the final match of the season to local rivals Melrose. They also reached the semi-finals of the Scottish cup and won the Border League.

As part of the 2014 European Cup, Netherdale hosted the match between Scotland and France on October 31. France won the match 38-22 As part of the 2015 European Cup, Netherdale hosted the match between Scotland and Ireland on October 23.
